Trauma Assessment Program – T.A.P.
Accidents are traumatic – “Together we can restore the accident victims’ quality of life”
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is under diagnosed in accident victims. PTSD can be present (independently of the severity of other injuries). Mental Trauma or Psychological injury has been under diagnosed as a basis for litigated claims. Among the various diagnoses found in psychological injury claims, PTSD is one of the most highly compensated.
The Center of Psychological Effectiveness develops strong alliances with personal injury attorneys. The Trauma Symptom Inventory (TSI) allows the client to obtain an objective and definitive diagnosis. The TSI is a well validated psychological test.
The Trauma Symptom Inventory is a reliable test of post-traumatic stress. PTSD can result from accidents, and especially, motor vehicle accidents. The TSI can be completed by any adult who can read at a fifth grade level. Norms are based on a nationally representative sample. The TSI has demonstrated 90% accuracy in predicting PTSD in an independently assessed sample. Quick, reliable, and easy to use, the TSI is a cost effective way to evaluate acute and chronic posttraumatic symptoms.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EDMR) uses a structured approach to address past, present, and future aspects of disturbing memories. The approach was developed by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. to resolve the development of trauma related disorders. Dr. Marotta received her training directly from Dr. Shapiro. The American Psychiatric Association Practice Guidelines (2004) has stated that medication, CBT (cognitive-behavior therapy), and EDMR are first line treatments for trauma. The Center also provides both CBT and EDMR services.
