Make That Change: Initiating Change in Your Life

“If you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make a change.”  Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson articulated the above motivational quote in his 1988 song “Man in the Mirror.” If you want change to occur, make it happen yourself. Do you ever say, “I wish something in my life could be different?” Now ask yourself this, what stops you from making it different? Change is often difficult because it can lead to anxious feelings, racing thoughts, a sense of loss or fear. Although there is dissatisfaction with the current situation, at least it is the known one.

Whether it is moving to a new town, starting a new job, going through a divorce or becoming a parent, change can be difficult. Here are some ways to embrace the change around you.

1) Become self-aware. The more self- aware you are the more likely you are to understand the change that is around you.
2) Surround yourself with positive people who allow change to enter into their lives.
3) Be flexible and open minded to new things.
4) Start with small changes.
5) Limit your expectations.

6) Ask for help when you need it.
